Anna's bulk pickup runs once a month through CARDS Recycling, on your regular trash day during the third week. The pile has to fit in about 3 cubic yards, roughly 3 by 3 by 9 feet. Brush and carpet must be bundled, each 4 feet and 50 lb or less.
When is bulk pickup in Anna?
CARDS Recycling collects bulk once a month on your normal trash day, during the third week. That schedule comes from the City of Anna's trash services page.
Yard waste rides along on the same pickup, according to Anna's recycling services page. Miss that day, and the next regular chance is a month out.
Anna's bulk set-out guidelines say to contact CARDS for additional bulk pickups.
What counts as a bulky item?
Anna defines bulky items as large things that won't fit in your trash container with the lid closed. The guidelines accept:
- Furniture, lawn furniture, and mattresses or other compressible items
- Grills with the propane tank removed
- Lawn mowers with no gasoline or motor oil
- Bicycles, and home exercise equipment under 50 lb
- Washers, dryers and empty hot water heaters
- Carpet and brush, bundled to 4 feet and 50 lb or less
Sizing the pile: about 3 cubic yards
Anna's limit works out to about 3 cubic yards. Think of a strip along the curb 3 feet wide, 3 feet deep and 9 feet long.
Weight matters too. The 50 lb cap on exercise equipment catches people, so a heavy treadmill or weight bench won't qualify.
The guidelines warn that a disposal fee will be charged for an excessive number of bulky items. If a clear-out won't fit, split it across months or arrange an extra pickup with CARDS.
Refrigerators, freezers and AC units
CARDS won't collect a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner in Anna without proof of freon evacuation. That proof has to be submitted and verified before the collection date. It can't be sorted out the morning of pickup.
We take appliances and unhook standard plug-in and water-line connections. See appliance removal in Anna, or read how to get rid of old appliances for every option.
Where fences, lumber and tires go instead
Anna sends construction materials, treated wood and fences to the NTMWD Melissa Landfill at the posted gate rate. Residents can also contact CARDS for roll-off service. Under its city contract, CARDS holds the exclusive right to provide roll-off service in Anna.
If the fence is still standing, light demolition in Anna covers the tear-out, quoted per job.
Tires can go to most tire retailers or specialized recycling facilities for a fee. We don't take tires either.
Getting a third-week pile ready
A month is a long time to look at a pile, so prep it in stages. Pull the propane tank off the grill and drain gas and oil from the mower as you go.
Bundle brush and carpet to 4 feet and 50 lb while you're cutting, not the night before. If a fridge is going out, line up the freon paperwork early.
Furniture still in good shape can go to area charities instead. See where to donate furniture in Collin County before it goes to the curb.
Rural lots and big brush jobs
Older properties on Anna's outskirts can produce more limbs than any monthly pile can hold. Bundling a downed tree into 50 lb pieces is a weekend of work on its own.
We load and haul brush, limbs and yard debris by trailer space. Big clearing jobs may need rented or subcontracted equipment, so those get scheduled rather than done same-day.
Hazardous waste and electronics: spring and fall
Anna holds a household hazardous waste and e-recycling event each spring and fall. Residents who can't wait can coordinate with the NTMWD Melissa Landfill for a fee.
We don't haul wet paint, chemicals, motor oil or ammunition. The Collin County hazardous waste guide lays out other options.
Hauling it yourself from Anna
Anna lists the 121 Regional Disposal Facility at 3820 Sam Rayburn Highway in Melissa, phone 469-626-4452. NTMWD's facilities page gives its hours as Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For do-it-yourself recycling, Anna points residents to the Custer Road Transfer Station at 9901 Custer Road in Plano. Self-hauling means loading, tying down and unloading every piece yourself. For a few heavy items, weigh that trip against a minimum pickup.
Christmas trees are simpler. CARDS picks them up free on your normal pickup day.
When does a hauler make more sense in Anna?
Monthly pickup is fine for a chair or two. It gets slow when you're clearing an older rural property before it sells, or the pile is mostly limbs.
We're about 18 minutes up US-75 from McKinney. You send photos for a quote, pick a time, and we haul it off and sweep up. Pricing is by trailer space, from $189 for a minimum pickup, with the price locked in before we load.
Payment comes at the end, once you're satisfied. The Anna service area page covers what we do in town. Job-specific pages cover yard debris and brush, furniture removal and garage and attic cleanouts.
For other towns' limits, see the Collin County bulk pickup rules.
