Clear the Garage Before the Holidays

Clearing the garage before the holidays gives you room to park, a place to hide gifts and space for guests. Cowboy Site Services hauls garage junk across Collin and Grayson County, priced by how much trailer space the load takes. Send photos for a quote, and we confirm a firm price before anything gets loaded.

Why clear the garage before the holidays?

The holidays put a lot of pressure on one room. Guests need somewhere to park, gifts need a hiding spot, and the decorations have to come out of storage.

When the garage is packed, your own car sits in the driveway on frosty mornings. Guest cars end up on the street. Every box you shift to reach the lights reminds you how much is in there.

Clearing it before the rush means you deal with it once, on your schedule. The alternative is digging around the pile all season and promising yourself you'll get to it in January.

What usually needs to go?

Most garages fill up the same way. Something gets set down for a week and stays for years. By fall, the pile usually looks something like this.

  • Old furniture waiting on a someday project
  • Broken or outgrown bikes, toys and sports gear
  • Boxes that never got unpacked after the last move
  • A dead fridge, chest freezer or other old appliance
  • Exercise equipment that turned into a clothes rack
  • Scrap lumber, old shelving and leftover building materials
  • Lawn equipment you've already replaced

What can't go on the trailer?

We haul nearly everything a garage collects. The short list we can't take is wet paint and chemicals, motor oil, asbestos, ammunition and tires.

Garages tend to hide those things on a back shelf. Pull them out before we arrive and set them to one side. Our household hazardous waste guide shows where paint, oil and chemicals can go instead.

A simple plan for the weeks before guests arrive

You don't need to sort every box before you call. A rough plan keeps the job from turning into three lost weekends.

  • Pick a target date a week or two before your first guests arrive.
  • Walk the garage and mark what stays: decorations, tools you use and anything with sentimental value.
  • Set aside a corner for gifts and for anything you plan to donate yourself.
  • Send us photos of everything else for a quote.
  • Pick a time, and we load it, haul it off and sweep the floor.

Starting earlier in the fall?

Some folks like to clear the garage before the first cold snap and the holiday rush. Parking inside makes a real difference when severe weather rolls through North Texas.

If that's you, our fall garage cleanout checklist is a good companion to this plan. The work is the same, just a few weeks sooner.

Make room for gifts and guests

Once the floor is clear, decide what the space is for over the holidays. Maybe it's one bay for your car and one for a guest's.

A cleared shelf up high makes a good gift-hiding spot. A folding table near the door works for wrapping, or for extra drinks on the big day.

Put holiday decorations on the shelves closest to the door. That way they come out and go back without moving anything else.

What about the old couch or the guest bed?

Hosting tends to show off problems inside the house too. The sagging guest bed or the worn couch in the den looks worse when company is coming.

We can take those on the same trip as the garage load. Our furniture removal service covers couches, mattresses, recliners and bedroom sets, carried out so you don't wrestle them through doorways.

Pairing the house items with the garage load usually makes sense. You're paying for trailer space, so one trip is simpler than two.

What does a garage haul-off cost?

We price by how much room the load takes on our 14-foot dump trailer. A Minimum Pickup starts at $189, a Half Trailer Load starts at $515, and a Full Trailer Load starts at $759.

Send photos and we give you an honest estimate up front. We confirm a firm price on site before anything gets loaded, and it doesn't change after you say go.

There's no fuel surcharge, no labor add-on and no distance surcharge anywhere in our service area. You pay at the end, once you're satisfied with the space. The pricing page shows what each tier usually holds.

What does a holiday garage job look like?

One of our jobs was clearing unwanted items from a client's garage and from around their house. That kind of mixed load is easy to handle in a single trip.

Here's how it goes. You send photos for a quote, pick a time, and we haul it off and sweep up.

We do the lifting, the loading and the sweeping. Our garage and attic cleanout service has more on what a full cleanout includes, from the floor to the rafters.

Why not wait until after the holidays?

Waiting rarely makes the pile smaller. Holiday boxes, gift packaging and the things guests leave behind usually add to it.

We work Monday through Saturday, 9 to 6, and offer same-day service when available. Planning a week or two ahead still gives you the widest choice of times.

Clearing it now also means the year ends with a clean garage instead of a bigger pile. That's a better way to start January than another weekend of sorting.
