These guys are good. Not only did they do a perfect job but also their knowledge on building materials and how to disassemble my built in grill was quite impressive. Unbelievably friendly. Unbelievably professional. Unbelievably worth it. If you need…
Cowboy Site Services takes down and hauls away backyard sheds across McKinney, from small metal kits to wood sheds with a floor. We break it down, load the pieces plus anything stored inside, then sweep the spot. Every shed removal is quoted per job after we see photos.
Does McKinney need a permit to take down a shed?
For building one, McKinney's amended building code exempts small one-story detached sheds, as listed below. Whether a teardown needs its own paperwork is a question to put to the city before work starts.
Where a city requires a permit, it's usually pulled by the general contractor or the homeowner. If one is needed and nobody else is pulling it, we can usually pull it ourselves for an added fee that varies by city.
Our demolition permits guide explains how this works across the area.
Old sheds in McKinney backyards
Texas sun and spring storms are hard on a shed. Floors go soft, doors stop closing and the roof starts letting water in.
Plenty of McKinney homeowners would rather have the yard space back than patch it again. That's when we get the photos.
Leaning or partly collapsed sheds are fair game too. We'll tell you from the pictures if anything about yours needs extra care.
What stays on the ground when we leave?
A floor built on skids or runners comes out with the walls. A poured pad is where it gets more involved.
A small pad can be quoted separately as concrete removal. A large slab, or footings that need heavy machinery, is beyond our light demolition work.
If the shed has power, an electrician needs to disconnect it before teardown day. Once that's done, the rest is on us.
Do you have to empty it first?
No. Old mowers, bikes, broken tools and stacked boxes can all go out on the same trailer as the shed itself.
Gas cans with fuel, motor oil, wet paint and garden chemicals are the exception. Our hazardous waste guide shows where those can go.
If a rusted swing set or trampoline sits nearby, add it to the photos. Playset and trampoline removal can ride along on the same visit.
What helps us quote your shed quickly
Good photos save a trip. Shoot the shed from the front, one side and the inside, plus the path from the yard to the street.
These details shape the price more than anything else.
Send what you have, and we'll ask about anything missing. One good round of photos is usually enough to quote.
- Rough size, measured or paced off
- Wood, metal or resin construction
- Floor type: wood on skids, gravel or a concrete pad
- How full it is, and with what
- Gate width and any slope between the shed and the driveway
- Whether power or water runs to it
What McKinney rules touch a shed teardown?
- McKinney's amended building code exempts one-story detached accessory structures from a building permit if the floor area does not exceed 120 square feet.Source: McKinney Code of Ordinances — Sec. 122-26 (retrieved 2026-10-09)
- McKinney's bulky item collection excludes construction and demolition materials and pallets.Source: City of McKinney — Residential Trash Services (retrieved 2026-09-26)
- Properties outside city limits in Collin County, including unincorporated areas and any ETJ, apply for a Development Permit through the Collin County Citizen Self-Service Portal.Source: Collin County — Development Services FAQ (retrieved 2026-10-09)
Shed debris can't go out with the city's bulky item collection, as McKinney's residential trash page notes. Once it's down, it needs a ride to a disposal site. Our shed removal service covers the teardown and the hauling in one visit.
If your place sits outside city limits, development permits go through the county portal instead, per Collin County's development FAQ. Our shed and playset guide and the McKinney bulk trash guide cover the rest of the planning. Inside city limits, check with the city before teardown day.
The full rundown is in our McKinney bulk trash and brush pickup guide.
Shed Removal in McKinney: questions
How is shed removal priced in McKinney?
Per job, not by a set tier, since size, material and contents all change the work. Text photos from a few angles and we'll quote it. We confirm the price on site before anything comes down.
Can you take out a metal shed that's half fallen in?
Usually, yes. Bent panels and a crumpled roof are common with old metal kits. Send a few photos so we can see how it's anchored and what's still inside.
Do you remove sheds outside McKinney city limits?
Yes. Homes on the edge of town and out in the county are part of our regular area. Just know the county, not the city, handles any development permits out there.
