Sherman and Denison Bulk Pickup and Drop-Off Rules

Sherman gives each household one free bulk and brush pickup a month, called in through the Sherman app, the website or 903-892-7777. Denison collects one curbside bulk pile of up to 2 cubic yards six times a year, in even-numbered months. Both cities also run a resident drop-off station, and neither city program takes construction debris.

How does bulk pickup work in Sherman?

Sherman's bulk and brush collection page offers one free pickup per month. Since May 4, 2026, it's call-in only, through the Sherman app, the city website or 903-892-7777.

Each pickup covers up to 5 cubic yards of bulk and up to 10 cubic yards of brush. Keep them in two separate piles.

  • Brush: limbs can be no more than 6 ft long and 12 inches in diameter.
  • Not taken: root balls, stumps, and bagged or tied material.
  • Also not taken: tires, fluorescent bulbs, batteries, hazmat, liquids, concrete, shingles, and dirt or rock.
  • Tree work: Sherman's program rules say a contractor who trims trees or removes a dead tree must take all the trimmings.
  • Enforcement: the same rules say Sherman issues fines or penalties for not following the bulk program rules.

What if one Sherman pickup isn't enough?

Sherman's special trash collection page lists a paid bulk and brush pickup at $21 per cubic yard. There's an $84 minimum.

Residents can also haul it themselves to the Citizens' Trash Drop-Off Station at 811 S East St. It's open Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bring a driver's license and a current water bill. The drop-off station rate sheet, with rates effective October 1, 2024, lists these charges:

  • Up to 2 cubic yards: $11 flat. Each additional yard: $5.
  • A 16-ft (16-yard) trailer: $81.
  • Tires: $3 each, or $6 on the rim. Car batteries: $3 each.
  • Appliances: $5 each.
  • Unsecured load: an extra $21. Tarp and tie it down before you leave.

Where does household hazardous waste go in Sherman?

Not in bulk pickup, which excludes hazmat and liquids. Sherman's solid waste and recycling page describes an annual Texoma Council of Governments collection event instead, with registration required.

The city posts each year's date on that page. The event takes leftover paint, used motor oil, gasoline, antifreeze, household cleaners, chemicals and pesticides.

It doesn't take business or contractor waste, ammunition, explosives, medical waste, tires, rims, CRTs or drums. We don't haul chemicals, wet paint, motor oil or tires either, so our household hazardous waste guide lists other options.

When is bulk pickup in Denison?

Denison's bulk collection page runs curbside bulk six times a year. Collection months are February, April, June, August, October and December.

  • Size: one pile of 2 cubic yards or less.
  • Timing: set it out no earlier than 7 a.m. the Saturday before, and by 6:30 a.m. Monday of collection week.
  • Not taken: construction debris, chemicals, household hazardous waste, wet paint and tires.
  • Off-cycle: a scheduled pickup outside the cycle is $17.25 per cubic yard. The page lists a forced pickup at $34.50 per cubic yard.

Who can use Denison's Residential Collection Station?

Denison's Residential Collection Station is at 300 W FM 84, north of Munson Park. It's open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to noon, and closed Wednesday and Sunday.

The city's station page says it's for residents within city limits with an active water account. Bring a picture ID and a current water bill, and know that contractors and landlords aren't allowed.

  • Brush: the first 3 cubic yards are free, then $7.39 per cubic yard.
  • Junk: the first cubic yard is free, then $12.93 per cubic yard plus 8.25% tax.
  • Unsecured load: a $22.09 tarp charge.
  • Not accepted: tires, chemicals, commercial waste, construction material, dead animals, hazardous waste and wet paint.

Where can bigger loads go in Grayson County?

Two landfills serve the area when a load is too big or the wrong type for the city programs. WM's Hillside Landfill is at 1102 Nelson Rd in Sherman, with public hours Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hillside is closed weekends. It accepts non-hazardous household, commercial, industrial and special waste, plus construction and demolition debris.

The Texas Area Solid Waste Authority runs a Type I municipal solid waste landfill at 25090 State Hwy 56 in Whitesboro. TASWA was formed in 2000 by Denison, Gainesville, Sherman, and Cooke and Grayson counties.

What about Van Alstyne, Howe and Gunter?

The smaller Grayson County towns we serve run their own programs, each with different limits. Here's the short version.

  • Van Alstyne: CWD's Van Alstyne page collects bulk weekly on trash day. The limit is 2 cubic yards, with no item over 150 lb. Tied brush bundles up to 4 by 2 ft and 50 lb are unlimited, but loose brush isn't collected.
  • Van Alstyne also has a monthly CWD door-side household hazardous waste program, and you need to call 2 weeks ahead. It's the only Grayson County entry on TCEQ's HHW contacts list.
  • Howe: Howe's utilities page says bulk goes out the second Saturday of each month through Frontier Waste Solutions, at the curb by 7 a.m. Freon items need an HVAC certificate.
  • Gunter: Gunter's bulky item page collects every Tuesday, limited to 1 cubic yard (3 by 3 by 3 ft). Construction debris, tree trunks and yard waste are excluded.

When does a hauler make more sense?

Denison's station turns away contractors and landlords, and Sherman's free pickup is once a month. Neither city program takes construction debris, so rental turnovers and remodel leftovers often have no city option.

We work Sherman, Denison and the rest of Grayson County. We carry items out from wherever they sit, including rental and eviction cleanouts and remodel debris.

Send photos for a quote, pick a time, and we haul it off and sweep up. Prices go by trailer space, from $189 for a Minimum Pickup, with a firm quote before we load.
